The process 

Regardless of unique risk factors for certain conditions like oral cancer and gum disease, all patients will be advised to visit us at least bi-annually for regular hygiene appointments. During each visit, a skilled dental hygienist uses special instruments to gently yet thoroughly lift extrinsic stains from the surfaces of the teeth and destructive tartar that cannot be removed with standard toothbrushes and OTC oral care products. Our hygiene team also uses specialized tools to measure the periodontal pockets or spaces between the teeth and gums. In doing so, we can assess the condition and health of the gingival tissue that protects and supports the teeth. 

Our hygienists will later mention these and other potential problems, such as worn or damaged restorations, to one of our dentists. The “finishing touch” involves polishing the teeth for a minty-fresh feel, pleasant-smelling breath, and a dazzling smile. 

Afterward, Dr. Jifri or one of her associates will take a closer look at some of the problems isolated by the hygienist as needed and perform a comprehensive exam. Some things cannot be perceived solely by sight or touch. So, one of our dentists will use safe, efficient, and precision digital imaging to detect areas of “hidden” decay or other trouble spots that may go ignored. Oral problems are often asymptomatic or associated with very subtle symptoms in their earliest stages, a fact that only further underscores the importance of maintaining proactive, professional care in the form of ongoing hygiene visits.
