Crowns For Root Canals in Milton ON area

Crowns are an essential part of root canal therapy. Dr. Jameela Jifri avoids failures or complications related to treatment by restoring teeth with dental crowns after root canal treatment. The strength of the treated tooth is sustained with a crown. With proper patient compliance and follow-up care, root canal treatment has a high success rate exceeding 90%.

What to expect following root canal treatment

The Scott and Derry Dental Care team in Milton, Ontario, will go over how to care for your teeth and answer any questions you may have. We are also available if you have concerns about the tooth in the hours and days following treatment. It is not unusual to experience some temporary tenderness immediately afterward. There may also be lingering numbness due to using localized anesthetic for utmost comfort. Additionally, your tooth may feel slightly “off” or somewhat different from its neighbours. These sensations are typically temporary. Do not hesitate to call us, especially if you experience familiar sensations such as:

  • Persistent discomfort
  • Pressure that won’t go away
  • Visible swelling

These can be signs that the tooth is not properly healing. There are things that you can do to support successful treatment. Notably, that involves keeping follow-up appointments at our office and as advised by Dr. Jifri. During your follow-up, the temporary crown placed to protect the treatment site will be removed. Dr. Jifri then checks that the permanent crown fits well and looks and feels great before securing or cementing it to the tooth. It is only then that root canal treatment is fully complete. After all, the tooth’s strength, structure, and appearance must be restored with an appropriate dental restoration. Most of the time, this is a dental crown. The crowns may be made from various materials, which are shaped to replicate the tooth structure visible above the gum line (the natural crown).

Other things that you can do to encourage healthy healing

It is important also to follow any other instructions provided by Dr. Jifri and our team. For instance, take gentle care when cleaning around the treated tooth. Do not eat hard or chewy foods that place pressure on the tooth and the more fragile temporary crown that is initially placed to protect the site. Minimize chewing on the side of the mouth that was treated whenever possible. Avoid any behaviours, including smoking and the use of other tobacco products, that can interfere with healing.

Dr. Jifri can also advise on the use of medications for pain relief and antibiotics to fight infections as appropriate and needed. Phone Scott and Derry Dental Care in Milton, ON, today at (855) 438-4999 with questions and to learn more.
