Transform Your Smile with Dental Bridges: A Comprehensive Solution for Tooth Replacement

Do you hide your smile due to a gap where a tooth used to be? Have you altered how you chew due to a space in your mouth? If these questions hit a little too close to home, we are here for you in Milton, Ontario, with a well-established solution to your needs for tooth replacement: the dental bridge. Our dental bridge services at Scott and Derry Dental Care can restore your smile to how beautiful, healthy, comfortable, and functional it used to be – before your tooth was irreversibly damaged or otherwise lost due to disease or injury.
Why is it called a “dental bridge”?
This form of tooth replacement “bridges” the gap between two teeth, effectively filling the space where a tooth used to be with a new prosthetic tooth or restoration.
How does a bridge do this?
Think of the standard dental bridge as three parts:
- The replacement tooth or “pontic”
- A dental crown, secured to the neighbouring tooth to the left of the gap/pontic
- A dental crown, secured to the neighbouring tooth on the other side of the gap/pontic
These crowned teeth are known as “abutments.” The abutment and pontic are fused together to create the bridge. Then, the dental bridge is cemented to the neighbouring teeth. As the crowns go on top of teeth, they anchor the pontic in between. So, the pontic fills the gap, replaces the missing tooth, and gets its support from the abutments or anchor teeth on either side.
What if I am missing more than one tooth?
Dental bridges can be used to replace several teeth. We simply incorporate more pontics or prosthetic teeth into the dental bridge. Conventional or implant-supported dentures may be recommended for patients who have lost most of their teeth.

How long do bridges last?
With good care, your new teeth can last very long. Now, there are some tricks to cleaning underneath the bridge. We can advise how to ensure the tight or hard-to-reach area under it remains free of lingering food debris, bacteria, and plaque. For instance, we can provide you with some initial floss threaders and demonstrate how to use this product. For some patients, interdental brushes or floss picks are a particularly easy way to keep their dental work clean and healthy.
Why should I choose Scott and Derry Dental Care?
We offer many options to rebuild the beauty, health, and structure of your teeth. These options also include implant-retained crowns and bridges, which may be appropriate for individuals who are missing one tooth or a few or several teeth. Implant systems do not rely on other teeth for their support and stability; instead, they are supported by implants positioned in the jawbone and designed to function like tooth roots.
When considering options to replace your teeth, many factors come into play. Call our team in Milton, ON, at (855) 438-4999 to schedule your consultation and learn more.
